Tiger Woods Had To Be Woken Up During DUI Arrest: Report
Tiger Woods was arrested in Jupiter Florida, early Monday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, an incident the American golf legend wrote in statement was the result of an “unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.” According to arrest documents, Woods had to be woken up from behind the wheel at the time of his arrest.
The police report, which was obtained by local news station WPEC, said Woods had his seatbelt on and was “asleep behind the wheel and had to be woken up.” The report added, “Ofc. Palladine made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle B/M Eldrick T. Woods (12/30/1975) who had his seat belt on and was seated in the drivers seat.”
The report also noted that Woods had “slow and slurred” speech but added there were no odors. A later breathalyzer test found that Wood’s blood alcohol level was .000, corroborating the claim in his Monday statement that “alcohol was not involved.”
Woods told the arresting officer that he was coming from golfing in Los Angeles, according to the report. He also said he didn’t know where he was and changed his story about from where and to he was going. According to the report, Tiger did not know where his home was, despite being arrested in the same Florida town in which he lives.
Woods could not remain standing upright during his sobriety test and “missed [his] heel and toe each time.” The officer allegedly re-explained the instructions after Woods failed to complete requested tasks. The report noted that the officer had to explain instructions “several times” before Woods completed them correctly.
Woods released a statement Monday evening that addressed the incident and clarified that alcohol had not been the cause.
“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said. “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly. I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.”
