RMD, Ego Boyo reunite 25 years after Checkmate on set of The X Family

Veteran actors Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) and Ego Boyo have reunited 25 years after their epic performances on Checkmate.

Writing on his Instagram, the legendary actor reminisced about their past, their collaborations and how much the actress invested in her career, and her enviable humility even though she had an influential family.

“My journey with Ego Boyo started nearly 30 years ago, our first encounter being on the production of Checkmate when my dear friend Amaka Igwe pulled me in as the villain Segun Kadiri on the highly coveted TV series,” the actor wrote.

He continued, showering her with praises, going on and on about her humility and family, while remembering that they were Nigeria’s favourite TV sweethearts.

“Our status as Nigerian TV sweethearts rose with the movie Violated as ‘Tega’ and ‘Peggy’ became the toast of Violated fans,” said RMD, adding, “Since then Ego has gone ahead to becoming wife, mother, accomplished business woman and the president of International Women’s Society.”

Now they are back again on RMD’s new TV ‘DramCom’ The X Family, and he hinted that they are working yet again for another major piece. “I can only hope that getting back together again on TV will tickle fans of Ann Hathrope and Segun Kadiri and the fans of Tega and Peggy who have been craving to have them grace their TV screens again,” he said, adding, “Ego and I are pretty excited about this and hope the excitement catches on.”

Only recently, Ego Boyo put Nollywood filmmakers on the blast for churning out mediocre works.

“Mediocre can’t be our target. Are we selling out venues and selling out real creative content. .Lack of originality,” said Ego Boyo in a series of tweets weeks ago. “I miss the days when the content was rich, original even if tech wasn’t great. Now tech is better, even great, and some stories are…”, she opined.
