Former vice president Dr Alex Ekwueme dies in London

The death has been announced of second republic vice president Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.

According to the statement released by the family  and signed by the brother  the traditional ruler of Oko community in Anambra state Prof.Igwe Laz Ekwueme he died in a London Clinic at 10:00pm on Sunday 19th of November, 2017.

The statement reads:

“Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.

“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”

President Buhari had earlier approved his treatment abroad and he was flown in an air ambulance  on Sunday, November 12 after initial treatment in an hospital in Enugu to stabilise his health.

He was aged 85.
