Zimbabweans in wild jubilation as president Robert Mugabe resigns-photos

Zimbabwe president Robert  Mugabe has resigned as president on Tuesday.

The speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda  announced the resignation to lawmakers on Tuesday. Bringing an end to the 37 year rule of Mugabe characterised by oppression and economic  collapse.

The letter was read by the speaker and part of the letter reads: “I Robert Gabriel Mugabe in terms of section 96 of the constitution of Zimbabwe hereby formally tender my resignation… with immediate effect”.

The resignation of the president has elicited wild celebration and jubilation in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe had resisted pressure to resign and was at the verge of being impeached before his surprise resignation.
